“ChatGPT web: Chats remain in Recents after moving to a. Environment Surface: ChatGPT web on Windows and a tablet browser. Browsers tested: Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and incognito mode. The issue persists across these environments. Plan: ChatGPT Plus. Affected features: Projects, Recents, and project navigation. Both Chat and Work conversations are affected by the drag-and-drop issue. Bug Since September 29, 2026, conversations moved to a project remain visible in “Recents,” despite “Organize sidebar → By project” being selected. The conversation appears inside the project and in “Recents.” Both entries open the same conversation with the same URL. I expect moved conversations to appear inside their project without remaining in “Recents,” matching the behavior in the Android app. The Android app works as expected with the same account. The organization issue occurs in the web interface across multiple browsers and devices. I have also observed these web issues: I cannot drag conversations from “Recents” into projects, with either Chat or Work conversations. I must use “Move to project.” In some conversations, clicking the project icon in the header does not open the project overview. ”

“As of October 2026, Recents still incorrectly mixes Project chats with standalone chats. I’m reporting a significant UX regression in ChatGPT’s Recents and Projects organization. Date of this report: October 6, 2026. This issue is not new. A community discussion about the same problem was already closed on September 8, 2026 , yet the underlying issue is still present today. The problem Previously, Recents had a very useful and intuitive behavior: Projects = organized conversations Recents = standalone conversations that have not been assigned to a Project Once I moved a conversation into a Project, it no longer cluttered the general Recents list. That made Recents function like an inbox: conversations that still needed to be organized stayed there, while conversations that had already been organized stayed inside their respective Projects. That behavior was extremely useful. What is happening now Project conversations are being surfaced in the global Recents view. I have already disabled: Recents → ⋯ → Show → Projects This reduces the amount of Project content shown, but it does NOT restore the previous behavior. Other conversations still appear in Recents that should not be there ”

There is a gap in the market for a chat platform that effectively separates project-specific communications from standalone chats, addressing the issue of clutter and confusion in user interactions. Current competitors like Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Discord offer various collaboration features but struggle with organization and user experience, particularly in managing multiple channels and conversations. This presents an opportunity for a solution that prioritizes clarity and ease of use in chat management.
