  • “3.24.9 Windows 10: Agent shell ~100s per command (echo ok); fixed only after useLegacyTerminal in settings.json. Describe the Bug Environment Cursor: 3.24.9 (user setup) Commit: cd6d2a1f2e56e9841f0ed9c7c24542087b4e69b0 Date: 2026-10-08 OS: Windows_NT x64 10.0.19045 Shell: PowerShell (integrated terminal default) Project: local workspace (not Remote SSH) Timeline ~15 days ago (before our national holiday), Agent was fast for daily module work (~30 min per feature). After auto-update to 3.24.x , the same workflows took hours ; every Agent step that runs a shell command felt stuck on “running command”. Symptoms Simple command echo ok in a new Agent chat took about 1 min 40 s (~100 s) to complete. The same command in the integrated terminal finishes in milliseconds. Not a model/network issue: even trivial stdout-only commands hit the delay. What did NOT work initially Legacy Terminal Tool was enabled in Cursor Settings UI, but behavior did not improve. Checked %APPDATA%\Cursor\User\settings.json : cursor.terminal.useLegacyTerminal was missing until added manually. Workaround (confirmed) Added to User settings.json : "cursor.terminal.useLegacyTerminal": true, "terminal.integrated.defaul”

Existing solutions Observed

  • Visual Studio Code · free · complaints: Can be resource-intensive, Occasional performance issues with large projects, Complexity for new users
  • Sublime Text · $99 one-time purchase · complaints: High cost for a text editor, Limited built-in features compared to competitors, Lack of built-in version control
  • Atom · free · complaints: Slower performance with large files, Can be buggy at times, Less active development compared to competitors
  • JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA · Free Free – with 30 days of Ultimate included · complaints: High memory usage, Steep learning curve for beginners, Costly for small teams
  • Eclipse · free · complaints: Can be slow and resource-heavy, User interface feels outdated, Complex setup process

There is a gap in the market for a lightweight, high-performance code editor that combines the customization features of Atom with the speed of Sublime Text, while also providing robust built-in functionalities to enhance productivity for developers. Current competitors either suffer from performance issues, high costs, or complexity, leaving an opportunity for a solution that addresses these shortcomings.
